Caterpillar Sets Up Remanufacturing Unit

Caterpillar Inc. Says It Is Creating a New Remanufacturing Division
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Caterpillar Inc., the maker of tractors and other agricultural equipment, said Friday it is creating a new remanufacturing division, which it described as one of its biggest areas for future growth.
The new business will be headed by Steven Fisher, who is currently president of Caterpillar's remanufacturing services business.
Caterpillar, which started remanufacturing engines in the 1970s, offers remanufacturing for a range of products and parts serving both the company and outside customers. It recycles more than 100 million pounds of remanufactured products each year.
The company also announced Friday it formed a new dividion to focus on increasing manufacturing speed and maintaining low costs.
Caterpillar shares rose 70 cents, or 1.3 percent, to $54.70 on the New York Stock Exchange, where it was the biggest blue-chip gainer in morning trading.
