The Time Value of Money
By: Jeremy Ballenger
Life is about decisions, whether they relate to your work, business or personal life. Often ignored is the interplay between all these areas, and the fact that a little interdisciplinary thinking can go a long way. This might sound obtuse, but many important decisions can be made easier by thinking simply, and a bit differently.
Before we do, a note about value, and 'utility'. Business is about creating value. Our personal lives ...
Tips on how to save money
By: Jakob Jelling
Money is an essential element in every body’s life. It is the one that we exchange to get all the necessary things in life. And that is exactly the reason why we work all day and sometimes night. Since the flow of money in one’s life is not uniform, it is only prudent to save some money for the crunch days. Economics permits one to spend his/her money in any amount as he/she wishes. But how rationally one could plan so as to ...
Is My Money Safe?
By: Sam Vaknin
Banks are institutions where miracles happen regularly. We rarely entrust our money to anyone but ourselves – and our banks. Despite a very chequered history of mismanagement, corruption, false promises and representations, delusions and behavioural inconsistency – banks still succeed to motivate us to give them our money. Partly it is the feeling that there is safety in numbers. The fashionable term today is "moral hazard". The implicit ...

Trusts are becoming a popular way to structure business and personal affairs. If you are considering using a trust in any way, you should be clear on the legal obligations and the relationships involved. Always make sure you obtain proper advice before setting up a trust. Most lawyers are proficient in this area, but it is still advisable to talk to a legal advisor specialising in this area.
Retirement or Financial Freedom?
By Rick Hoogendoorn and Cheri Crause
In the past most people never retired. They died. The average life expectancy was much less than it is these days, and there were no financial planners around to help people save up enough to quit work. As recently as the 1960’s, if you did manage to save up enough money to retire, you’d be lucky to live another 5 or 6 years before you kicked the bucket. This made financial planning for retirement a little easier because ...

Make Your Money Work During Your Retirement
Make Your Money Work During Your Retirement
By Dakota Caudilla
For those of us who spent most of our lives working and earning money, retirement can be traumatizing. Despite fervent encouragement from family members to live a calm, peaceful and stress-less lifestyle, the retirement lifestyle is not quite the thing we’re looking for.
