I have a 401k at work and am wondering what looks good to be investing in for the next 5 years or so. Any thoughts?

Hi Brent,

Thanks for the question.

Are you focused on achieving income, growth, or a balanced approach?

I want my portfolio to grow but I don't want it to be extremely risky. I figure I have about five years before I want to make some changes with it.

Thanks for your questions

I'm a big fan of monopolies they seem to grow faster than most companies and often have position of control which I believe make them a little less risk. I would also recommend a asset allocation approach that puts your eggs in many different baskets. Their are many professional asset allocation program, I could recommend some or you could use the internet.

Thanks Randy

Hey, Brent.

I think you are asking a very valuable question in the wrong place. I can't emphasize enough the importance of finding yourself a good financial planner. My wife and I did this when we were in our early 30's and I am so grateful we did. I became disabled/retired at 56 (yes...disability does happen!!) and we are financially OK because we started investing early, aggressively and through a planner that came highly recommended and accredited. We have to be careful with spending, but things look pretty good for the long haul. I thank our planner! He is fee only so does not gernerate commissions on sales of funds/bonds. I have an annual review for a few hundred dollars and I can call any time with a question. It took a few tries to hook up with a planner we were comfortable with. We hit a couple of loo-loos in our first efforts but once you find one you are happy with, they are worth their weight in gold. I much prefer a mall, local planner than the big national "chains" (we dumped 2 of those in the early days of our retirement planning).

Keep asking questions and get PROFESSIONAL advice!

AL
